In Mark 12:27 Jesus said, in part, that God is the God of the living, not the dead… . Elsewhere, Hebrews 12:1 says that we are “…compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us”
Let us remember those who have given their lives for that which we hold most sacred, that their might be a government upon the face of the earth that protects Liberty and Justice for All. President Lincoln expressed how we should approach this day better than anyone when he gave his Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863 on the battlefield near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania when he spoke, in part:
“… It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
I choose to think of them as living, forever more, part of that great cloud of witnesses who are watching and cheering for us to finish the work of God’s Kingdom Restoration. What are they saying to us from their exalted position? Restore the Republic!
